Glue Gun
A good glue gun is an essential tool, and this one is my favorite. It uses the widely available 11mm glue sticks, its simple and reliable—no complicated settings, just plug it in, and you're ready to go. Its got a great fine nozzle allowing for pinpoint accuracy,  perfect for detailed work, and the fact that it’s plug-in means I never have to worry about battery life mid-project. It's a straightforward, dependable tool that has never let me down!
Tape
A reliable tape is truly my secret weapon. It’s like having an extra pair of hands while glue dries, adding extra security to projects you want to last, and it can even hide mistakes if the colour matches. After trying MANY tapes, this is the one for me. It’s easy to tear, perfect for writing on, and completely recyclable. Plus, it’s nearly a perfect match to that lovely cardboard colour—its ideal for all my crafting needs!
Electric Scissors
These have quickly become a must-have tool in my kit—sometimes I wonder how I ever worked without them! They slice through cardboard effortlessly, making them perfect for larger projects or when my hands just need a break from all the scalpel work. This is my first pair, and I have no plans to look elsewhere. They’re easy to use, offer great control, have long battery life, and are surprisingly (but not totally) quiet. Highly recommended!
Scalpel
The Swann Morton Scalpel is the go-to craft knife in the theatre industry—and I absolutely love it! A sharp blade is essential for quality cardboard crafting so whatever you choose you want it to have a replaceable blade, and with this scalpel, you’ve got a blade for every occasion. This handle fits my favourite blade, the 10a, and it’s retractable, which adds an extra layer of safety—especially when traveling or crafting around younger hands. Flicking the blade away after each cut (before putting it in a responsible place) gives me that extra peace of mind!
Make Do
These tools have quickly become a favorite in my craft arsenal, especially when working with younger crafters. I regularly use them during workshops with schools and youth groups, and they've also become the go-to tools for our "craft-a-long" shows. At home, my kids use our set almost daily — and they manage just fine with minimal supervision! While I don’t personally get much use out of the shorter scrus, the longer ones are fantastic. If you grab a pack of those, along with a saw and a scrudriver (I highly recommend the mini tool — it gives a much easier range of movement), you're all set for hours of cardboard creativity. A brilliant, fun, and safe way to bring kids’ ideas to life! Click here to check this item out for yourself
